Nigerian Students in California Organises Coalition Conference at UCLA

What is NSA?

The Nigerian Student Association is a cultural organization on UCLA's campus. We seek to unite students of all backgrounds on issues pertaining to the unique shared-life experience of being Nigerian, Nigerian-American and/or West African. As a cultural organization, the Nigerian Student Association (NSA) uses educational workshops, cultural performances, and community service opportunities to educate students about Nigerian culture, politics, and tradition, while also encouraging students' future aspirations by promoting academic success. NSA is open to everyone of all backgrounds interested in learning more!

What are we trying to do?
For the first time in the history of the Nigerian Student Association, we will host the 4th annual Nigerian Student Coalition Conference (NSCC) on April 22-24, 2016 at UCLA. The theme of our conference this year is, “It Takes A Village”. During this conference we will explore the unique and shared experiences of Nigerian students on university campuses throughout the state of California, and educate and unite students around important issues of Nigerian community and welfare. In alignment with our history-making year, we will also be hosting our 10th Annual Cultural Show on April 23, 2016 during the NSCC.

What we need from YOU
Putting on such a large event requires a huge amount of funding that a small student-run organization like ours just doesn't have. We have planned and held multiple fundraisers like our t-shirt sale, donut sales, and Pieology Nights, but we are reaching out to you to assist us in making this year’s conference the best one yet. Every and any donation puts us closer to our goal!

What will we do with your contribution?
The NSCC conference and 10th annual culture show each require specific items to ensure their success. Your contributions will be used to purchase these items. Here are a few of the items and their estimated prices:
  • Food for the entire weekend -  $2,000
  • Programs, flyers, and advertisments - $1,100
  • Tshirts for attendees - $1,700
  • Transportation - $400
  • Security - $300
If you'd like to see a more complete budget, feel free to send us an email at nsccucla@gmail.com and we'll be glad to send one your way!

How can you get involved?
Each and every donation is viewed with the utmost appreciation! If you would like to contribute on a non-financial level, there are many opportunities. An event like this could always use a helping hand. First off, you are more than welcome to attend either or both events! If you'd like to get involved in planning, don't hesitate to email nsccucla@gmail.com. We appreciate your interest and dedication to our cause!

On behalf of the Nigerian Student Association at UCLA Executive Board,
Thank you.
