RecyclePoints Wants To Pay Nigerians For Their Waste Materials

While Nigeria has seemingly stepped up in her waste management efforts, a simple look around shows that there is still much to be done. This has led to a crop of startups specifically geared towards innovative ways to rid Nigerian streets of unnecessary waste materials that threaten our health and well-being.
One such startup is RecyclePoints. Founded by Chioma Ukonu, RecyclePoints is a waste recycling and social benefit venture that operates an incentive-based scheme which collects recyclable waste materials from consumers and in turn rewards them with “points” which they can accumulate and use to redeem/shop for household items offered through the startup’s iRecycle store.

So far, their unique model has put them in the spotlight, they were one of the three finalists for the Aso Villa Demo Day; they also recently emerged as the winner of the ₦1million grand prize at the regional final of the Chivas Regal annual competition. The startup will go on to compete against 32 other global finalists at the international stage in Los Angeles later this year.

How it works?

RecyclePoints operates a door-to-door collection of recyclable items like pure water sachets, plastic bottles, used beverage cans, glass bottles, old newspapers, and even brown cartons. These items are collected from recyclers, counted and equivalent points are allocated based on their Points Earning Chart where quantity of items are equated to the amount of points earned.
Just visit their website to register or walk in to their office. It’s that simple!
