Why The Brilliant Writer, Luvvie Ajayi, Has Been Praised By Shonda Rhimes And Oprah Winfrey

2016 was a particularly great year for Luvvie Ajayi, the Nigeria-born writer and “professional shade thrower” who, after the release of her first book, was praised for her unique voice by the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Ava DuVernay (Selma, 13th) and Shonda Rhimes (Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy).
Her first published book, I’m Judging You: The Do-Better Manualwhich is full of hilarious commentary on everything Ajayi cares about – from serious issues like racism to smaller pet peeves like people who overuse hashtags – was released a few months ago and has become a New York Times best-seller.

Speaking with Huffington Post about why she wrote her book, Ajayi said:

“I want people to walk away from this book understanding that you always have some type of way to do better.”
“There are very key ways that we can leave this world a little bit better than when we found it. This book will make you laugh while you’re thinking through some of the stuff.”
While 2016 was certainly a banner year for Ajayi, her climb to notoriety was actually in 2003 when she launched her blog, AwesomelyLuvvie. Due to her unique voice, her blog quickly found a dedicated fanbase rushing to her for anything from her hilarious political commentary to amazing recaps of ABC’s Scandal.
Even the show’s creator, Shonda Rhimes, has shared Ajayi’s work multiple times on social media, including her massive support for Ajayi’s new book – now we can’t wait to see what this amazing new voice brings to the table next.
